Reopening of Macedonia Baptist Church Delayed
Greetings to the Macedonia Family!
I hope, pray, and trust that this correspondence finds you happy and in good health at a very disconcerting time in our society and our world. I’m sure you all were looking forward to reopening and gathering together in Christian love and fellowship, a tremendous part of the Macedonia tradition. As pastor of this historic and grand body of believers, I excitedly announced that the church would be reopening on July 5th and sent out correspondence to that effect. Upon reassessment of the Covid 19 crisis in Chesterfield County, counsel from persons with knowledge of the rising daily case numbers and fatalities as a result of this deadly virus, I was led to repudiate my earlier reopening statement.
Under the circumstances of this pandemic being a very present and real threat to the health of our members, I do not feel that it would be expedient to open the doors back up for traditional worship services at this time. It would be gravely negligent and irresponsible on my part, as your pastor, to not take seriously these staggering numbers, as well as the impact that this pandemic has had. It is important to ere on the side of caution and not put anyone in harms way by acting prematurely. So, regrettably, I am formally announcing that we are delaying reopening, but will be monitoring the impact of Covid 19 in our area in the days and weeks ahead, and will be providing updates and information as it is made available. A tentative time of reopening will be made as we approach that point.
We will continue to live stream our services on the Macedonia Baptist Church-Cash Community Facebook page. They can also be viewed on YouTube under the same heading, as well as on the church website (macedoniabaptistcheraw.com). I pray that you understand my position as your pastor and my desire to see you through this pandemic safe and sound. In the meantime, I solicit your prayers for those affected by this pandemic, the families that have lost loves ones, those on the front line fighting this virus daily, your fellow members, and least of all, your pastor. Thanks in advance for your understanding, your patience, and most of all your prayers.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Joseph A. McFarlan
